Pepper
Gentle leader • Kid-trusted • Big hearted chestnut
Pepper is a 17-year-old chestnut gelding and the quiet leader of our herd here at Madi’s Funny Farm. He is gentle, but firm — the kind of horse who keeps peace in the pasture and helps everyone feel safe and settled.
I fell in love with Pepper because of his heart for kids, especially children with special needs. He has an incredible sense for people who need extra patience and care. He is the horse I trust to give any kiddo a ride, no matter their age, ability, or confidence level. Pepper takes that job seriously.
Pepper has lived many lives before we found each other. He carries a heart brand, likely from time spent on a ranch, and had multiple careers before coming to the farm. Today, he is happily semi-retired, spending his days helping run the farm, teaching gentle lessons, and soaking up all the love and scratches he can get.
Sponsoring Pepper helps provide his feed, farrier care, vet care, and the daily support that allows him to stay comfortable, healthy, and doing the work he loves — taking care of both animals and people.

Boon
First rescue • Quiet survivor • Shy sweetheart
Boon is an older dark bay gelding in his 20s and the very first horse I ever rescued from an auction. I didn’t go there planning to bring a horse home — I didn’t even have a trailer. But Boon was the first horse run through the ring, and no one wanted him.
After the auction ended, I tracked down the buyer who had purchased him and learned Boon was bound for slaughter. I paid what I could, brought him home, and that moment changed the entire path of my life and this farm.
When Boon arrived, he was terrified and unsure of people. He also has deformities in his hooves that require special farrier care and, at times, pain medication to keep him comfortable. But over the years, we have watched him soften, heal, and truly flourish.
Today, Boon is still shy, but he is sweet, curious, and deeply loved. He surprises us constantly — even volunteering to dress up in costumes for community events and standing quietly while kids admire him. He is living proof of what safety, patience, and love can do.
Sponsoring Boon helps provide his specialized hoof care, comfort support, senior horse needs, and daily care so he can continue enjoying his peaceful, protected life here at Madi’s Funny Farm.

Wyatt
Gentle greeter • Unicorn horse • Kid-safe legend
Wyatt is a 23-year-old snow white gelding with big, soft brown eyes and a lifetime of stories written across his back. He came to our farm a year ago to join our kids program, but it quickly became clear that what Wyatt needed most was rest, consistency, and a safe landing.
Wyatt has had many jobs in his life. His sway back is a testament to the years he spent carrying people, teaching, and working. When he arrived, he was tired and needed thoughtful care. Today, we manage a few minor senior needs, including monitoring melanomas and supporting him with a carefully managed diet so he can stay comfortable and healthy.
Wyatt is pure gentleness. He dresses up to participate in community events, often becoming a beautiful unicorn with a dyed mane and tail. You’ll usually find him surrounded by small children — being led carefully, receiving hugs, and lowering his head so little hands can reach him.
Wyatt is the first horse most kids ever meet when they arrive at our farm. He is calm, reliable, and deeply safe — the kind of horse who makes fear disappear and wonder take its place.
Sponsoring Wyatt helps provide his specialized diet, senior care, vet monitoring, farrier support, and the daily love that allows him to continue being a soft, steady presence for children and our community.

Rio
Retired competitor • Senior sweetheart • Kid-lesson favorite
Rio is a senior bay gelding in his 20s who joined our farm two years ago when his family made the loving decision to retire him from western pleasure competition. They wanted him to have a safe place to land, where he could be cared for and appreciated without the demands of the show world.
When Rio first arrived, he was skinny and needed extra support. With good feed, special supplements, warm blankets, and time, he slowly filled out and found his strength again. Today, Rio looks and feels like a completely different horse.
Rio has a gentle soul and fits beautifully into our herd. His best friends are Pepper and Boon, and the three are often found together. He absolutely loves his warm breakfast mash and is always first to the fence in the mornings.
Even in retirement, Rio still enjoys having a job. He participates in our kids’ lesson program and is patient, kind, and steady — exactly the type of horse who helps children feel safe and confident.
Sponsoring Rio helps provide his senior feed, supplements, blankets, farrier and vet care, and the ongoing support that allows him to enjoy both a peaceful retirement and the meaningful work he loves.

Coco + Chloe
Senior minis • Bonded pair • Tiny but mighty
Coco and Chloe are our beloved senior miniature horses and one of the sweetest little duos on the farm. Years ago, they were rescued by an organization, later rehomed to a family, and eventually surrendered to us when that family could no longer afford their care. They came to Madi’s Funny Farm so they could spend their senior years safe, supported, and deeply loved.
Though they are small, Coco and Chloe have enormous personalities.
Coco is a striking black-and-white gelding with one bright blue eye and one brown eye. He is bold, bossy, and completely fearless. Coco stands up for himself even among much larger horses and is fiercely protective of Chloe. At 22 years old, he lives with the effects of an old hip injury and receives daily pain medication to keep him comfortable.
Chloe is a 27-year-old senior mare who is bright, spunky, and full of joy. She has a slight waddle when she walks, wears a blanket to stay warm during cold winter nights, and takes daily medication to manage Cushing’s disease. Despite her age, Chloe still loves to run and roll and reminds us constantly that joy doesn’t disappear with time.
Sponsoring Coco and Chloe helps provide their daily medications, senior feed, farrier and vet care, winter blankets, and the ongoing support that allows these two to live out their golden years in comfort and dignity.

Hope
Tiny teacher • Shy sweetheart • Community pony
Hope is a small black pony/mini horse in her teens with a quiet presence and a very tender heart. I found her listed on Facebook, and something about her story immediately stayed with me. Not long after, Hope came home to Madi’s Funny Farm.
Hope is shy, but she is willing. She is the kind of pony who teaches people to slow down, get on her level, and earn trust gently. With patience and kindness, Hope opens up — and once she does, she forms beautiful connections.
Today, Hope participates in community events, walks calmly among visitors, and helps me teach kids about horse care and gentle handling. She even plays a card game with the kids, becoming a soft, approachable bridge between children and horses.
Hope requires special care. We manage her Cushing’s disease and carefully monitor her diet so she can stay healthy and comfortable. She also has a constant companion and best friend — her “husband” Tody, a full-size buckskin horse who is almost always by her side.

Katie
First donkey • Senior sweetheart • Professional hug-collectorshare with the world
Grandma Katie is a 24-year-old grey donkey and the very first donkey to join our farm. Three years ago, after her owner passed away, she needed a safe place to go. I had been searching rescues for a donkey, but instead, Katie found me.
From the moment she arrived, she fit right in. With her soft brown eyes, classic cross marking, and gentle presence, Katie brings a calm, loving energy wherever she goes. She absolutely loves people and will happily soak up all the hugs, pets, and attention you can give.
Katie also has a big personality — especially when snacks are involved. She proudly brays to announce that it’s treat time and makes sure no one forgets about her favorite part of the day.
As a senior donkey, Katie benefits from ongoing supportive care, proper nutrition, and regular monitoring to keep her comfortable and thriving. Sponsoring Grandma Katie helps provide her feed, senior care, and all the little extras that keep her healthy, happy, and spoiled like the grandma she is.

Banjo
Big rescue baby • Toy lover • Future adventurer
Banjo is a one-year-old white john donkey and one of the babies from our biggest donkey rescue to date. When he was just six months old, Banjo and his mom, Lola, were part of a group of eight donkeys we were able to save together when they were bound for slaughter. That rescue changed everything — and Banjo has been filling our farm with laughter ever since.
Banjo is absolutely hysterical. He loves toys, especially jolly balls and his favorite screaming rubber chicken, which he proudly tosses around like a trophy. He is curious, playful, and always in the middle of whatever fun is happening.
He’s also learning how to do big-boy donkey things: getting trimmed nicely by the farrier, leading politely in a halter, and building confidence every day. Banjo loves to run and play with his best friend Cade, and I have big dreams for him. With his athleticism and spark, I think he’d make an amazing burro racer someday.
Sponsoring Banjo helps support his growing years with proper nutrition, training, farrier care, enrichment toys, and the foundation he needs to grow into a strong, confident donkey with a bright future.

Lola
Rescue mama • Brave heart • Donkey herd leader
Lola is a beautiful grey jenny donkey, estimated to be 4–5 years old, and Banjo’s mama. She came to Madi’s Funny Farm as part of our largest donkey rescue, arriving unsure of people and afraid of almost everything new.
In the beginning, Lola was very shy and cautious. But with time, consistency, and love, she has completely changed. Today, she is extremely social, seeks out attention, and has stepped confidently into her role as the leader of our donkey herd.
Lola is becoming braver every day. She is learning that normal care like hoof picking and grooming can be safe, calm experiences. She now leads nicely on a halter and continues to grow in trust and confidence.
I have big dreams for Lola — teaching her fun tricks, strengthening her skills, and someday even having her pull a cart. Sponsoring Lola helps support her continued training, proper care, enrichment, and the steady, patient work that allows rescue animals not just to survive, but truly thrive.

Cade
Fuzzy ears • New arrival • Shy little runner
Cade is a one-year-old chocolate brown donkey with the biggest fuzzy ears and the softest, most cautious heart. He joined Madi’s Funny Farm in December, but his story with us actually began a year earlier — he was on the same rescue truck as Banjo when we saved eight donkeys. This year, he found his way back to our farm, and we knew he was meant to be here.
Cade is very shy, but in just a few weeks he has already made huge progress. He now takes treats gently from my hand and enjoys being brushed. We are letting Cade set the pace for everything, building trust first and waiting until he feels ready before introducing things like a halter.
Most days, Cade can be found racing across the fields with Banjo, romping, playing, and showing flashes of the athletic, joyful donkey he is becoming. I hope that one day, Cade and Banjo will pull a cart together — and maybe Cade will turn out to be a runner too.
Sponsoring Cade supports his early training, gentle handling, nutrition, farrier care, and enrichment as he grows into a confident, secure donkey with a bright future.
